Have you ever been bothered by the chewing sounds next to your table in the restaurant? Or, have you noticed anyone around you who would make noises when they are eating?

Before ASMR videos went viral, making any noise when having food used to be a terrible manner, impolite by all cultural standards. Contrastingly, it is totally different when it comes to ASMR videos. The more noises the influencer make, the higher click-through rates they obtain. People are obsessed with listening to such kind of “sweet sounds” because it can bring humans plenty of “braingasm,” an intense rush of intellectual fervour or excitement in response to a stimulus (response to the eating sounds), namely Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR).

I have to confess that I had been one of ASMR video’s regular consumers. I fell down this youtube rabbit hole. The more interesting thing is that I used to watch them before sleep. Think about this, when you are hungry at midnight, and you cannot eat anything due to health and diet issues, what you can do is scrolling stream service to gain drowsiness. At the same time, there’s a video with red drooling Korean cuisine. Can you help sliding it off? As a result, I viewed plenty of these shows and was obsessed with these performers. During that period, I enjoyed these beautiful rhythms by braingasms one after another, especially in the IELTS preparing nights when it was dull, intense, and hungry; such a type of video accompanied me to go through this.

My favourite one: [햄지]Hamzy

Even though the ASMR videos have created a buzz in recent years, eating without noises on the table is still representing politeness and gentleness in most of our real life. In a word, what digital media offers us is that we now have a better way to perceive the “melody” between mouse and food, meanwhile, to gain a lot of joy with this kind of “torture.”
