I am writing this Journal to share some of my life and style in creative arts called ‘Futuristic vintage.’

After putting effort into the assignments and the enjoyable course from Jason, I can finally work in a Cafe where my cousin works. The coffee shop is called ‘Le Promenoir Coffee’ and is located in Taipei, Taiwan. Its interior design integrated with retro elements from the previous generations and artworks from children, as the below picture displays. This scene reminds me of one of my favourite design styles- ‘Futuristic vintage’ or ‘Retro-futurism.’

Generally speaking, retrofuturism represents the ideology of an overlapping style that examines the topics between past and future. Inspired by the futuristic imagination of filmmakers, artists, and writers in pre-1960, such a notion was prospering in the 1960s and 1979s along with the rapid development of technology.

From these artworks, we can clearly observe that there are plenty of viewpoints which are rooted from the future to the past and anticipated from the past to the future, accounting for the frenzied visions of space colonies with flying cars, and robotic servants (from the futurists). This fantastic style is impressive to me due to its magical realism and the contrasting aesthetics of the traditional and the futuristic movements, reflecting the common areas/common traces these two worlds share/ /or/ between these two parallel universes.

Finally, I suppose that my next step will be digging into the generation and design process to create more attractive and stylish retro-futuristic art deliverables.
